Istwa Ayisyen (Haitian History)
Haiti was once called La Perle des Antilles (The Pearl of the Antilles). Haiti is the most mountainous island in the Caribbean and has the most beautiful white sand beaches, waterfalls, coconut trees, rivers, and landscapes that can be found in every region of the country.
The creole word Chèlbè means elegant, chic, or luxurious in dress, style, or design. It also describes the elegance and beauty you'll see in the historical Victorian style homes that many other countries/cities have adopted (New Orleans, Savannah to name a few) lush mountain top views and its beautiful, friendly and hardworking people. There's so much more to discover and once you do, you'll see why that name still holds true.
Candle Care Instructions
Trim the Wick
Trim the wick to 1⁄4" length before each use and each time the candle begins to smoke. If the wick is too short the flame will be small and will not stay lit. If the wick is too long it will cause sooting and dripping. Trimming the wick is extremely important. We recommend letting the candle only burn about 2-3 hours before you re-trim the wick.
Proper Burn Time is Key
Proper burn time is essential during first use of a candle to maximize performance. Filled candles should burn until the surface is melted to the edges of the container. Avoid burning candles more than 4 hours at a time to prevent pooling.
The Best Way to Extinguish a Candle
Blowing out flames can lead to wax splattering and sooting. The best way to extinguish a candle is with a wick dipper. This tool allows you to safely submerge and reposition the wick without any soot. Another good option is to use a snuffer or place the metal lid on the jar.
Avoid Drafty Areas
Burn candle in a ventilated area but avoid drafty areas, as drafts can cause the flame to flicker, which often causes the candle to burn uneven and smoke.
Candle Storage
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the color and fragrance of your candle.
Safety Tips
Never leave a burning candle unattended. If you plan to leave the room, or if you have curious pets and/or children, make sure the burning candle is out of reach. Never move or tip a burning candle. Never burn candles near flammable materials. Extinguish all candles before going to sleep and be sure the wick ember is no longer glowing.
